Day1:
Dinner was pre-arranged at the Garden court Brassarie restaurant. We both were dressed for the occasion ,Ami wearing the purple party dress and me in the blazer. For starters we had greek salad and Brocolli and cauliflower soup.Main dishes were Lasagna and fritters(cutlet type).By end of it we were so full that we had no more space for desserts. The portion of dishes are very big (seems like NZers eat a lot!!!).We took the desserts(sundae/fruits with shorbet) to our room.Talked to parents while enjoying the desserts.Arranged our bags and then ready for bed .
Landed at the Auckland airport on time at 1:30 pm.Ventura Inn Suites courtesy shuttle was there to pick us up.A nice little room with spa was awaiting us.Lady at the reception desk was an Indian .Since a supermarket was not with in walking distance, she offered us an international calling card .After informing our parents we took a short nap to refresh ourselves.A pickup to the nearby Indian Express hotel was arranged by the hotel. We decided to have simple dal and rice for dinner but ended up having curry, tadka dal, roti, rice and masala tea. After checking our emails we headed back to our room to sleep as we had an early flight to Christchurch.
Day2:Day started early with the breakfast at 4:45 am.Hotel courtesy shuttle dropped us at the Auckland domestic airport for our 6:10 am flight.Reached Christchurch and called Apex Car rental for pickup. We both felt that the people in NZ are very polite and helpful.Picked up a Ford Fusion hatchback and went straight to a shell fuel station to pickup a 2 degree slim card for our mobile phone. Some people recommended us to go to Akaroa bank peninsula for a half day round trip.I was still getting used to driving on the left hand side but overall driving in NZ is fairly simple.Drive to Akaroa was simply beautiful with mountains, lakes and twisty roads along the way.Akaroa was a very beautiful harbor with cute little shops and restaurants on the beach road. After a walk on the harbour we decided to visit Bully Hayes restaurant(thanks to Lovely planet book and Ami). There was an amazing asparagus mushroom soup and vegetarian burger(with mango chutney!!! and chic pea patty). An amazing start for our hungry stomaches. After lunch we headed straight to our Hotel “The Chateau on the Park”.We had reserved an indulgent retreat package which included a premium room which opened into the rose garden, dinner and breakfast. The room looked fabulous with excellent view of the rose garden and pool.It was one of the 4 star hotels that we had planned to stay.It was right opposite Hagley park and Botanical gardens.First thing Ami wanted was some pictures in the room and patio. We had planned to leave soon for Christchurch sightseeing but jetlag hit us hard and we slept through the afternoon. After getting up at 7pm we went to the Christchurch CBDC(Central business district) to take the tram tour. The tram tour gave us a glimpse of the Christchurch downtown. We stood by Cathedral square,Victoria square. The city has a very English feel to it with the cute shops, restaurant. We returned back to the hotel by a 20min walk thru the Hogley park.
